How did you come up with this?

I Recognized there was a need for more zero waste stores. I talked to other people in the area, to see if there was a need for something like this. Everyone was overjoyed with the idea. We need to reduce, reuse and recycle as much as we can.

What is the most Challenging part of starting this business?

Raising awareness and spreading the message.  Finding local companies to source the products from. I buy most of my bulk soaps from a company in La Conner, WA – these soaps are package free, vegan and mostly palm oil free. Instead of shipping the soaps, I go and pick them up and put them in my own containers.

What is the best part of starting this business?

Seeing the community reaction. I love the excitement people get about the the concept.

Tell me a story

My mom and I went to the Cincinnati zoo on Labor Day. I was about 12 years old. We wanted to go see this Cheetah encounter show. When we showed up, we had just missed the show. We decided to stay and talk to the Cheetah keepers. The keepers told us how they took care of them and how they train them. We didn’t get to go in with the Cheetahs, but we got to see them behind the fence. I looked into the Cheetahs eyes. We connected. I knew right then and there that I wanted to do conservation work.
