What is your business

I create hand embroidered wall hangings. I frame the pieces in a embroidered hoop, to give it more of a rustic look. I do a lot of custom orders as well.

What is the most challenging part of your business?

My biggest challenges are getting my name out there, staying super present on Instagram, and doing day to day marketing for my business.

What is the best part of your business?

I enjoy being my own boss. I like to be able to have freedom to do what I want, and create what I want.  I like to be able to connect with customers one on one. Its really fun to connect with people and have meaningful interactions.

What is the favorite item you sell?

I love doing floral embroidery. My favorite is –  a quote in the middle,  and then a floral pattern on the outside. You can do that in so many variations, which makes my business very customizable.

Describe yourself in 4 words

Creative, Empathetic, low key, and kind

Are you from tacoma?

I am from a very small town in Indiana called LaCrosse. We visited Seattle and Portland in 2014. We loved that the PNW has the mountains, the water, and its green all year round. That is not the case in Illinois or Indiana. It was a joke at first – talking about moving here. When we were more serious, we looked at more options for my husband to  switch locations. He was able to transfer to Fife. In Summer 2017, we came back out to check surrounding areas. We checked out tacoma, and really loved that it was a small city. It was a good size for us, plus we are still close to Seattle and Portland. So we rented a house for a year. Then we finally bought our house in North Tacoma in September.

Describe your sense of humor

I laugh pretty easily. I like witty jokes, but I am not above fart jokes. I am not easily offended.

Tell me a story

This is a story about how I met my husband. I grew up in a small town called LaCrosse.  My husband was born in CA, then moved to a small town in Indiana too. The closest big town was about a 25 minute drive away called Valparasio. When I got my first job, it was at Panera. I met my husband there, he too was working at Panera. He was a freshman in college and I was a senior in high school. I ended up going to the same college as him (Perdue). We both worked at Panera in college. We have actually met a lot of life long friends working at Panera, funny enough! We got engaged in 2013, and married in 2014.

Overall, Kara is awesome! She is so easy to talk to, and really laid back. I defiantly can see myself being friends with her. I was so happy to do this interview with her!

Tomorrow I am featuring “The Pod Works”!
